Canine Colorado’s Greyhound Edition

Portraits With Purpose in Denver

This spring, our Denver photo studio opened its doors to Colorado Greyhounds. American, Spanish Galgos and Italians. All ages, all personalities. They came in curious, dignified, awkward, graceful. Sometimes all of these at once. Each got their moment in the spotlight.

Why? Because this was more than a portrait project. It was our sixth edition of Canine Colorado fundraiser magazine, dedicated entirely to greyhounds.

A Fundraiser That Actually Gives Back

All our participants in the project helped support greyhound rescue and transport organizations doing life-changing work:

  • Colorado Greyhound Adoption dedicated to finding permanent loving homes for and promoting the adoption and welfare of retired racing greyhounds as excellent family pets.

  • Daphne Legacy Tour focuses on rescuing Spanish Galgos, sighthounds often discarded after hunting season in Spain. They work with shelters overseas to give these dogs a second chance through international adoption.

Participants enjoyed beautiful portraits of their dogs, a chance to be featured in print, and the satisfaction of supporting charities that care deeply about these dogs.

What It’s Like Photographing Greyhounds

Greyhounds are an interesting bunch. They’re tall, lean, and fast, but indoors they’re often surprisingly mellow. Some stood frozen, blinking under the lights. Others trotted confidently across the studio like they’d been modeling for years.

We adapted to each dog’s vibe. Sometimes that meant slowing things down with soft voices and a quiet space. Other times, it meant squeaky toys, snacks, and strategic squeals from behind the camera.

The goal? Always the same. Show who they are, not just how they look.

Breed-Specific Fundraisers Work. Here’s Why.

We’ve found that breed-specific projects like this one create a strong sense of connection. Participants come in knowing they’re not just booking a session. They’re joining a cause in a community of people that shares their love for a specific breed of dog.

It’s portraits with purpose. It's a lasting tribute captured in a magazine.

Plus, greyhounds are still underrepresented in mainstream dog media. Giving them the spotlight feels right.
